Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

What happened to "Failure to stop and render aid"?
If this was a common joe, he would be in jail.
Just a continuation of two tiers of LAWS.

How is this incident not a crime? If he had just stopped to check on the pedestrian, then this is a traffic accident. But driving away, at least in my view, is a criminal act.

The witness stated the victim was splayed across the windshield, which on a Corvette would be easy, and the driver did not know? The driver needs to be held accountable regardless of who he is!

How long is it gonna take to make people over a certain age, lets day 60, are required to take a full written, eye and driving test??? If they fail, you get NO second chance. How many deaths? Is there a certain number that the govt is waiting for? Do you remember the horrific accident in California a number of years ago, I believe, where an old man hit the gas and plowed down tons of people at an outdoor market and killed many of them,? The govt. seems to butt in where they don't belong and then won't take care of things that a necessary. I thank God that my in-laws have asked us to be their judge and tell them when its time for them to give up driving.

Your in-laws have a lot of faith in you, but just wait and see if they give those keys up when you think they should. Gimme a break, I'm 59 and I certainly would know if I hit someone, especially if he were spread across my windshield. Maybe start testing at 65 or 70. I should just about be fully crazy by then from teaching 7th graders for 30 years. And remember, boys between the ages of 16 and 24 have the most accidents, not us old folks. Just how old are you, Gabby?? There was once an actor named Gabby Hayes, he'd be about.............ummmm......120 now, I believe...no, guess that's not you. I'm 43, and let me tell you, unless you live in the grand state of FLORIDA or another retirement state, you have NO idea the treacherous driving that goes on when these damn "snow birds" come a flying back here. We talked and she gave the keys to dad.

Gabby, it's not only the snow birds that make Florida one of the worst if not THE worst state for driving. If you live in South Florida you gotta know it's the locals. That includes soccer moms on their cell phones in SUVs they can't handle, over-caffeinated businessmen of all ages, young men in muscle cars, young women checking out the young men, the general texting public, just a whole bunch of people who think they can multi-task while driving. By the way, you're closer to 60 than you'll ever be to 40 again BABE. FYI I'm 34.

As someone who recently turned 57, I have no problem with the idea of testing people yearly or semi-yearly once they turn 60. If I am fully lucid, with my reflexes intact at that point, then I should have no problem submitting to such a test. If I'm not fully lucid at that point, or if my reflexes and/or judgment is severely lacking, then taking me out from behind the wheel can only be a good thing for others (and for myself), though it would force me to find other ways of getting around.

Gabby, no, I'm not, although my patience has dropped as I get older. My god, I'm 59, I'm over that time of my life. I remember, vaguely, being 18 and living in the French Quarter in the late 60's, which is why I say vaguely. I hope that when you are older, no one tries to take your keys. Most people are still young at 60. How old is your mother in law? I wish her well. Don't make judgments about things you don't know about at the young age of 43. And don't be so hostile. There is still a lot of road ahead.

Royalcat, I think you're being a little silly or you're very young. The majority of serious/fatal accidents are by young men in their teens to early 20s. Senior citizens do have more accidents than drivers in their 20s to early 60s, but they are rarely fatal or serious, mostly because older drivers don't speed or drive recklessly. Mr. Novak should be required to be tested again, but why make a blanket generalization about people over 60? And most organizations don't count people as seniors until they hit 65. On the other hand, perhaps we could apply the one strike and you're out law to teenagers. If they apply for a driver's license and fail, they should wait a year before they can reapply. How about it?

Moira, I might be a little silly but I am 59, dear. And let me tell you, when I pay car insurance for my 21 year old to drive, I wish I were young again! I don't care whether they test anyone over 60 or not, there are more important things to worry about, like whether or not I'll be able to retire when I'm 65. And if I can retire then. With prices so high and me being a single teacher, who knows if I'll be able to afford it. And will my son have anything to retire to? He'll probably still be paying off the deficit.

How can the police write a simple ticket if the pedestrian was on his windshield and kept going? That's HIT & RUN. Did the police check for alcohol? Just another example of the famous and powerful getting away with a slap on the wrist. There is no fair and equal justice in our courts. Now if I ran him over I would probably be in jail. I'm so disappointed with the direction this country has been going since Kennedy was shot and the investigation came up with the 'magic bullet' baloney, let alone Chappaquiddick. The inmates are running the asylum.

Only in the USA Theocracy - and the Muslim Theocracies, would this kind of elitism (by a totally ignorant and immoral boor) be allowed.

Ah, yes, theocracy. You must be referring to the wonderful interview between Novak, a couple of his caveman buddies, and Frank Zappa that took place 20 or so years ago. Zappa TOLD these idiots during the course of that interview that the US was in danger of becoming a theocracy, but of course they scoffed. Thanks to people like Novak, while the US may not yet technically be a theocracy, we are far closer to that state than when that interview took place.

I'm sure you can find this interview on Youtube by searching on something like Zappa and Novak.

$50.00 fine??? For hit & Run with injuries! If Novak was some average schmuck, he'd be in jail right now and his precious Corvette would be in an impound yard!

Novak told WJLA-TV he was cited for failing to yield the right of way. He said he didn't realize what happened and continued driving until a bicyclist stopped him.

This brings to mind the scene in Roadhouse when Patrick Swayze's antogonist is driving down the road in both lanes singing and running people off the road. The rich of this country view the rest of us as something less than human. We only matter in that they need us to run the gas stations and resorts where they vacation. We have become something worse than the monarchy that we revolted from.
